Course Title: Common Lesions of the Oral Cavity for Primary Care Physicians


David Lederman, DMD, Associate Professor at the Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medicine

Dr. Lederman is a diplomate of both the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and the American Board of Oral Medicine. He is a consultant at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He is an Associate Professor at the Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medicine, and Senior Attending, founding staff member, and former chief of the dental department at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, New Jersey. Dr. Lederman was appointed as a founding member and served for 14 years as co-chair the Governor’s Task Force on Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment of Cancer in NJ, and chaired the Workgroup on Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancer. He is Director of Atlantic Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Director of the Oral Pathology Division of QDX Pathology Services, and Director of the Center for Oral Medicine in Freehold, NJ.

Description
This educational activity is designed to provide the participants with information about the clinical presentation of the more common lesions of the oral cavity. In this program, Dr. David Lederman, oral pathologist will describe the clinical presentations of Medication Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw as it pertains to antiresorptive medications. Many common lesions of the oral cavity will be addressed including glossitis, herpes simplex, oral lichen planus and candidiasis.

Number of Credit Hours: Meridian Health designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity. Cost: There is no cost to registrants for this educational activity.

Overall Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this educational activity the participant should be able to:

1. will be able to recognize the more common oral mucosal lesions clinically.
2. will be able to discuss the possible causes and clinical presentation of medication related osteonecrosis of the jaw.
3. will be able to initiate a treatment plan and determine when to refer to appropriate specialist as necessary.

Method of Participation:
This internet enduring presentation is an educational video presentation. In order to receive credit, physicians must complete the entire educational activity and complete a multiple choice test at the end of the video presentation. Participants must also complete the online post-activity course evaluation form to receive credit.

Meridian Health is accredited by the Medical Society of New Jersey to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
