Sara McGee, MD
Sara McGee, MD is an oncology specialist in Red Bank, NJ. Dr. McGee completed a residency at Saint Francis Medical Center. She is also board certified in Hematology. Dr. McGee currently practices at Hackensack Meridian Medical Group - Specialty and is affiliated with Riverview Medical Center. Dr. McGee is board certified in Hematology.

Glen I. Komatsu, M.D.
Dr. Glen I. Komatsu earned a BS in biological sciences at the University of Arizona and his MD at the Arizona College of Medicine. After completing a pediatric residence at UC Irvine Affiliated Hospitals and a neonatology fellowship at Long Beach Memorial/Miller Children’s Hospital, he entered private practice. He served as medical director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center, Torrance from 1985-2004, as well as director of bioethics for Providence Health & Services in the South Bay. In 2004, Dr. Komatsu pursued an additional specialty by taking an adult palliative care fellowship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. Returning to California in 2005, he now serves as Chief Medical Officer for Providence TrinityCare Hospice and Regional Palliative Care Southern California, Medical Director for TrinityKids pediatric hospice, director of the Edmond R. and Virginia G. Doak Center for Palliative Care at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center, Torrance, Medical Director of Palliative Care, Children’s Hospital of Orange County and Senior Advisor for Strategy and Education to Providence Institute for Human Caring.

Description
THIS EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY is intended to train Healthcare Professionals in caring for cancer patients under the age of 50. It will address coping strategies for young patients experiencing advanced or progressive disease. Tools and resources will be listed along with methods of treating young cancer patients with kindness and compassionate care.

Number of Credit Hours: Hackensack Meridian Health designates this enduring material for a maximum of 2.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity.

Cost: There is no cost to registrants for this educational activity

Overall Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this educational activity the participant should be able to:

1. Provide compassionate care for cancer patients under the age of 50 experiencing advanced or progressive disease

2. Support families of cancer patients under the age of 50 as they navigate caregiving for loved ones

3. List tools and resources available to caregivers who are treating cancer patients under the age of 50.

Method of Participation:
This internet enduring presentation is an educational video presentation. In order to receive credit, physicians must complete the entire educational activity and complete a multiple choice test at the end of the video presentation. Participants must also complete the online post-activity course evaluation form to receive credit.

Accreditation

Hackensack Meridian Health is accredited by the Medical Society of New Jersey to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

NURSING STATEMENT:
NURSES CONTACT HOURS: NJ Board of Nursing (NJAC 13:37-5.3) states: “A registered professional nurse or licensed practical nurse may obtain continuing education hours from the following: (d)3. Successful completion of continuing medical education courses recognized by the American Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association or the American Podiatric Medical Association: one hour for each 60 minutes of attendance” therefore, CME credits obtained today may be used in place of nursing contact hours.
