Course Title: Thriving Through Your Cancer Journey: Inspiration and Advice from a Survivor
Janice M. Woerner, MS, OTR/L
Janice M. Woerner, is two-time breast cancer survivor, motivational speaker, and healthy lifestyle enthusiast. Janice’s cancer journey began in 2010 when she was diagnosed with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ). In addition, she was told she would be unable to conceive a child. One year later, her daughter was conceived, naturally, crediting restorative yoga in helping her body heal and increasing her fertility. In 2015, the cancer had returned and Janice underwent a bilateral mastectomy. She suffered an infection in her tissue expanders that required additional reconstructive surgeries. Janice is the author of the children’s book “Mommy Has Boo-Boos On Her Boobies”. She also offers workshops to help patients prepare and recover from their mastectomy or lumpectomy surgeries.
Janice is now a certified Occupational Therapist practicing in Old Bridge, N.J., and has achieved the professional credentials of M.S., OTR/L. Her focus is post-mastectomy or lumpectomy physical rehabilitation to increase range of motion, decrease pain and regain independence with daily tasks. However, she is most passionate about long-term recovery focusing on areas such as vocational changes, personal relationships post-treatment, self-care for mental health and dealing with the psychosocial impact from treatment.
Janice founded Jersey Girl Health and Wealth.com which is a website serving the cancer community seeking resources for health and wellness, patient education, personal development, and overall balance and serenity in their life. JGH&W.com is a place to make connections with those who strive to uplift, educate and empower. This website was created for all those affected by cancer including those currently being treated, newly diagnosed, clinicians, caregivers, family, and friends.
