Course Title: 1st Annual Faculty Development Symposium
Kenneth Faistl, M.D.
Dr Kenneth W. Faistl is a Board certified Family Physician with additional qualifications in Geriatrics and Addiction Medicine . He graduated from Seton Hall University and the College of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ. He completed his residency at RWJ Medical School and Monmouth Medical Center. Dr Faistl practiced for 39 years at Centrastate Medical Center in Freehold, founding their Family Medicine Residency in 2004. In 2014 he assumed the position of Family Medicine Program Director at HackensackUMC Mountainside in Montclair. He has served on various Boards including VNA Health Group, the Board of Trustees at both Centrastate and recently Mountainside Hospital. He is the Medical Director at both New Hope Foundation and Turning point drug treatment facilities in Northern and Southern New Jersey and the Co-Medical Director at Monmouth University PA program.
Kathleen Casey, M.D.
Dr. Casey graduated magna cum laude from UCLA and elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She received her MD from UMDNJ-Rutgers Medical School and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She was a resident, chief resident and fellow at UMDNJ- Rutgers/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Casey joined the faculty at JSUMC in 1987. She serves as Chief of the Infectious Diseases Section and Medical Director of the JSUMC HIV Program as well as the Monmouth County TB Program. A Clinical Professor of Medicine at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Dr. Casey has directed the 2nd year Physical Diagnosis at JSUMC and been integrally involved in improving and redesigning the course globally and locally. Dr. Casey has been involved NIH sponsored research through the Community Program for Clinical Research in AIDS, been the Principal Investigator for numerous clinical trials and has authored or co-authored more than 30 articles, chapters and abstracts. She has chaired numerous state wide symposia related to Infectious Diseases. She has been honored with Louis F. Albright Teaching Award, the RWJ Clinical Faculty Award, the Education Award of the Infectious Diseases Society of New Jersey, the RWJ Distinguished Alumni Award the UMDNJ , the Stuart D. Cook Master Educator’s Guild and the Louis F. Albright, MD Cardiology Symposium Lifetime Achievement Award.
Joseph R. DePasquale, M.D., MHCDS., FACP., FACG
Dr. DePasquale has been actively engaged in medical education for more than 25 years. He currently serves as the Chief Academic Officer, Internal Medicine Program Director and Gastroenterology Associate Program Director for Saint Michael’s Medical Center, Prime Healthcare NJ. He is an invited member of the New York Medical College Dean’s Council and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine. Prior to his current role, he held faculty appointment with Seton Hall University (SHU) and served as a key clinical faculty member and Gastroenterology Associate Program Director in SHU’s School of Graduate Medical Education Residency training programs. Dr. Depasquale’s role as an educator extends beyond physicians to Physician Assistants. Dr. Depasquale serves as co-medical director for the Monmouth University PA program. Throughout his career, Dr. Depasquale has assumed multiple hospital and professional association leadership postions. He is past president of The New Jersey Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and New Jersey Gastroenterology Society. Dr. DePasquale remains actively engaged in the practice of medicine and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
Stacy Doumas, MD
Stacy Doumas, MD, is the director of Education, Department of Psychiatry at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, New Jersey , part of the Hackensack Meridian Health Family. Dr. Doumas graduated with honors from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School in 2001. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Rutger’s, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Doumas holds board certifications in the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Psychiatry.
THIS EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY addresses, and is designed to provide the participants with information about, the educational needs of academic faculty throughout the Hackensack Meridian Health System who are involved in graduate or undergraduate medical education. Topics discussed will include observation and feedback of trainees, simulation in medical education, quality improvement projects for residents, and faculty wellness. Each year this annual program will address topics needed by faculty to stay up-to-date in medical education.
Number of Credit Hours: Meridian Health designates this enduring material for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity. Cost: There is no cost to registrants for this educational activity
Overall Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this educational activity the participant should be able to:
1. Discuss the role of feedback and quality improvement projects in graduate medical education.
2. Explain the role of simulation in medical education.
3. Recognize the components of faculty wellness and its importance in medical education
Method of Participation:
This internet enduring presentation is an educational video presentation. In order to receive credit, physicians must complete the entire educational activity and complete a multiple choice test at the end of the video presentation. Participants must also complete the online post-activity course evaluation form to receive credit.Accreditation
